Puerto de Ushuaia faces lawsuit over alleged forced privatization
A lawsuit has been filed against the Agencia Nacional de Puertos y Navegación (ANPYN) regarding the intervention of the Port of Ushuaia. Representing affected workers, lawyer Manuel Raimbault claims the national agency's measures constitute a “privatización por la fuerza” (privatization by force) of the maritime terminal.
The legal action, filed in the courts of Tierra del Fuego, seeks a judicial review of the decisions made by ANPYN since its intervention. The plaintiffs argue that the national takeover has displaced local authority and is facilitating the transfer of functions and resources to private interests, potentially violating the rights of employees and the provincial state.
The Port of Ushuaia is a strategic hub for Antarctic tourism, cruise traffic, and regional logistics. Workers have reported arbitrary changes to labor conditions, staff reductions, and the imposition of new protocols since the national agency assumed control.
