Puerto de Valparaíso extends Terminal 2 concession and receives ultra-large container ship
The Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso (EPV) and Terminal Portuario Valparaíso (TPV), a company belonging to the Grupo de Empresas Navieras (GEN), have signed a contract modification to extend the Terminal 2 concession until December 2029. This extension, previously approved by the Tribunal de Defensa de la Libre Competencia (TDLC), aims to ensure operational continuity for sites 6, 7, and 8 while the port undergoes future expansion and development processes.
In a separate operational milestone, Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS) received the Tampa Triumph, one of the largest container ships to arrive at the Port of Valparaíso. The Evergreen-linked vessel, an Ultra Large Container Vessel (ULCV) registered in Panama, arrived from Callao, Peru. The ship features a length of 365.9 meters and a capacity of 13,656 TEU. EPV officials noted that the reception of such large vessels demonstrates the port's current operational capacity, though they highlighted that future expansion projects will allow the port to handle up to three such vessels simultaneously.
