Puerto General San Martín mayor rejects provincial takeover of port tax funds
Carlos De Grandis, the mayor of Puerto General San Martín, has declared that the municipality will not yield local tax revenues to the provincial government. During a plenary session at Plaza San Martín, De Grandis rejected attempts by Governor Maximiliano Pullaro’s administration to centralize or redistribute funds collected from trucks entering private port terminals.
The mayor emphasized that these resources are essential for maintaining urban infrastructure, security, cleaning services, and public works, such as schools and health centers, which are impacted by heavy transit. De Grandis stated that if necessary, he would block access to the ports to protect the city’s legitimate funds.
Additionally, De Grandis criticized the national government under President Javier Milei regarding the lack of maintenance and public works on National Route 11, a critical freight corridor in Santa Fe. He highlighted the poor condition of the roadway and the lack of shoulders as significant safety concerns.
