Puerto Madryn taxi drivers oppose ride-hailing app project

Taxi drivers in Puerto Madryn are contesting a proposed municipal project that would regulate ride-hailing applications. The head of the Association of Taxi Owners, Sandanella, criticized the initiative for attempting to equate app-based services with traditional public services without providing clear details regarding controls, tariffs, or sanctions.

Sandanella also highlighted a shift in the stance of Mayor Gustavo Sastre. While the mayor previously supported ordinances prohibiting such applications, he now argues that Puerto Madryn must incorporate these services due to its status as a tourist city. The taxi association disputed this reasoning, noting that tourism levels are not dependent on the availability of apps. The sector has indicated it will seek legal recourse if an ordinance is approved under the current contested terms.
