Puerto Montt official resigns after stadium promotion controversy

Sergio Barría, the former Head of Concessions for the municipality of Puerto Montt, has resigned following a controversy involving his fast-food business. Barría was accused of promoting his own restaurant at Estadio Chinquihue, a facility that fell under his official oversight, by distributing flyers and giving away free hamburgers.

Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt described the resignation as an error but maintained that there was no personal profit or financial gain involved in the incident. Wainraihgt contrasted the situation with the previous administration, noting that the former director was arrested for illegal weapons and drug possession. The municipality has announced it will begin the process of finding a replacement and will follow due process in the investigation of the reported irregularities.
