Puerto Morelos announces Janal Pixan 2026 celebrations

Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, the municipal president, has announced the Janal Pixan 2026 celebrations to commemorate the Day of the Dead in Puerto Morelos and Leona Vicario. The festivities aim to preserve cultural identity and attract visitors to the region.

In Puerto Morelos, the Mar de Almas Festival is scheduled for October 24, as well as November 1 and 2. In Leona Vicario, the Alma y Raíz Festival will take place on October 30. Organizers anticipate an attendance of more than 6,000 people across the various events.

A highlight of the celebration includes a traditional sea procession, with 16 vessels already registered to participate. Authorities have confirmed that all participating boats hold valid permits and that measures are in place to protect the local reef and marine fauna during the transit.
