Puerto Morelos signs agreement with Fundación Aitana for childhood cancer support

Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, the municipal president of Puerto Morelos, has signed a collaboration agreement with Fundación Aitana to provide comprehensive support to children and adolescents facing cancer.

The partnership aims to assist patients and their families throughout the disease process. According to local health data cited by Merari, childhood cancer remains a leading cause of mortality for children aged 5 to 14 in Mexico. The agreement, supported by the Puerto Morelos DIF System, includes assistance with medications, treatments, and the provision of learning and recreational spaces to alleviate the emotional burden on families.

As part of the initiative, the “Alas de Esperanza” fundraising campaign has been launched, inviting citizens to donate 100 pesos in exchange for a yellow paper butterfly containing messages of encouragement. The goal is to collect 2,501 butterflies to create a community bond for children currently in treatment.
