Puerto Morelos strengthens mental health and addiction prevention

Authorities in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, have launched a coordinated effort to strengthen mental health prevention and addiction treatment services. During the first ordinary session of the 2026 Municipal Committee on Mental Health and Addictions, local officials and institutional representatives agreed to integrate resources to address the community's needs.

The initiative places a specific emphasis on children, adolescents, and young people, as well as vulnerable populations and the elderly. Strategies include awareness campaigns, school-based activities, and interactive sessions with teachers and caregivers to facilitate early detection of risk factors.

Representing Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, General Secretary José de Jesús Espinosa Payán emphasized that mental health is a fundamental component of dignity and quality of life. He stated that the government aims to provide professional care that is “free of stigmas and prejudices” while creating safe spaces for citizens to seek assistance.
