Puerto Ángel promoted as Oaxacan coastal tourism destination

The Oaxaca Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur Oaxaca) is promoting Puerto Ángel, located in the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla, as a premier coastal destination. Known as a land of fishermen, the area is characterized by its maritime identity, hospitality, and traditional fishing culture.

Visitors can access various beaches, including Panteón, La Boquilla, and Estacahuite, as well as natural rock formations such as La Cueva del Oso. The region is a notable location for water sports, particularly sport fishing. The local gastronomy is deeply rooted in these traditions, featuring dishes such as barrilete.

Historically, Puerto Ángel served as a maritime trade port during the 19th century for the transport of coffee and precious woods. While the destination can be visited year-round, the period between November and March offers the specific opportunity to observe humpback whales passing through the regional waters.
