Puerto Plata commemorates birth of General Gregorio Luperón

Authorities and citizens in Puerto Plata commemorated the 187th anniversary of the birth of General Gregorio Luperón, a key figure in the Dominican Republic's Restoration War and a defender of national sovereignty.

The commemorative events included military honors, the raising of the national flag, the playing of the national anthem, and a 15-cannon salute. Various institutions participated, including the Permanent Commission of Patriotic Anniversaries, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education, and the Puerto Plata Provincial Government.

Ceremonies featured the laying of floral offerings and a large civic-military and student parade that traveled from the Puntilla del Malecón to the Plaza Independencia Central Park. Notable attendees included Provincial Governor Claritza Rochtte Peralta, Mayor Diómedes Roque García, and regional education director Luis José Sánchez Baldwin.
