Legal proceedings advance in Dominican Republic and Honduras

Several legal proceedings are advancing in the Dominican Republic and Honduras. In Puerto Plata, the Court of Appeals is reviewing appeals in the case of baseball player Wander Franco. The prosecution seeks to overturn a sentence that granted Franco a judicial pardon for sexual abuse and psychological violence against a teenager, requesting a five-year prison sentence instead. The defense is also challenging the ruling, citing errors in evidence evaluation.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Court of Appeals has scheduled a ruling for November 18 regarding an appeal by the Attorney General's Office. The case involves a RD$7.5 million fine imposed on the Attorney General's Office for failing to return a mobile phone to Juan Francisco Álvarez Carbuccia, a former Intrant official involved in a corruption case. The fine serves as a penalty for non-compliance with a judicial order to return seized assets.

Additionally, a hearing regarding the preventive detention of Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León, linked to the death of Emmanuel Contreras Medina, has been set for November 5. In Honduras, the Court of Appeals of Francisco Morazán is scheduled to address an appeal involving former military chief Roosevelt Hernández, who faces charges related to incitement to discrimination against journalists.
