Puerto Plata police arrest suspect in $11,000 jewelry theft
National Police agents in Puerto Plata have arrested 21-year-old Breidy José Rosario Hernández, known as ‘El Diablón’, in connection with the theft of jewelry valued at approximately US$11,000.
The stolen items, consisting of an 18-karat gold chain and a diamond-encrusted medal, were taken about a week ago from a residence in the Torre Alta neighborhood. The theft occurred while employees from a refrigeration company were performing work at the home of a foreign citizen. Investigations suggest that one of the workers took the jewelry from a bed while the owner was in another room.
Police reports indicate that Rosario Hernández and Oliver Eliezer Paredes allegedly transported the jewelry to a jewelry store in La Vega to be sold. Rosario Hernández, who was wanted as a fugitive, was apprehended via a judicial arrest warrant and will be handed over to the Public Ministry as investigations continue.
