Ecuador advances energy projects including Azuay wind farm

Ecuador is advancing several energy sector initiatives, highlighted by the launch of a bidding process for the El Pimo wind project in Azuay. Managed by CELEC EP through its CELEC SUR unit, the project aims for a 150 MW capacity and an estimated annual production of 650 GWh. The tender for pre-feasibility and feasibility studies has a budget of approximately $2.47 million and allows for international consultancy participation.

In the hydroelectric sector, CELEC EP reports that major plants are in optimal condition to handle the upcoming dry season (estiaje) following preventive maintenance. Meanwhile, Petroecuador is overseeing strategic operations in oil blocks 12 and 15 in Orellana to strengthen production and energy self-sufficiency.

Other regional reports indicate varied electrical challenges: electricity cooperatives in Argentina are reporting positive financial results, while residents in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, are protesting high bills and frequent blackouts. In Cuba, authorities in Granma are addressing electricity theft and component pilferage, and in Mexico, businesses in Rosarito are meeting with CFE officials to discuss grid instability and power outages.
