Puerto Plata residents report street lighting failures
Residents and commuters in Puerto Plata are reporting significant deficiencies in public lighting across various streets and avenues. The lack of illumination has left several areas in near-total darkness, creating safety concerns for pedestrians and drivers.
Specific areas affected include the upper section of Avenida Manolo Tavárez Justo near the Ricardo Limardo Provincial Hospital, and the Puerto Plata-Cofresí highway, which lacks lighting from the Free Zone to the Penetración al Muelle avenue. Other affected streets include Antera Mota, Virginia Elena Ortea, El Morro-Gregorio Urbano Gilbert, and Cardenal Sancha.
Citizens have called upon the Municipal City Hall and the Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Norte (Edenorte) to coordinate a solution to address burnt-out bulbs and deteriorating fixtures, noting that the darkness has contributed to several accidents.
