Puerto Rico Energy Bureau fines Genera PR $25,000
The Puerto Rico Energy Bureau has imposed a $25,000 administrative fine on Genera PR for failing to submit required documentation regarding three natural gas supply contracts within the established deadline. The requested information includes billing, payments, discounts, nominations, and adjustments related to the San Juan 5 and 6 units, the Palo Seco and San Juan temporary generation units, and the Multi-Site contract.
The documentation is part of a preliminary audit into costs, deliveries, and obligations related to natural gas supplies from NFEnergía LLC. While Genera PR expressed surprise at the fine and noted that it had requested extensions to ensure the information was complete and verifiable, the Energy Bureau denied those requests.
The Bureau has ordered both Genera PR and the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (AEE) to submit the required information by October 13 at 5:00 pm. Failure to meet this new deadline may result in additional daily fines. The Bureau specified that the fine must be paid using Genera PR’s own funds and cannot be covered by the AEE or treated as a reimbursable expense.
