Puerto Rico Governor Announces Resignations of Secretary of the Governor and Subsecretary

Governor Jenniffer González of Puerto Rico announced that Secretary of the Governor Francisco Domenech will step down on August 7 and Subsecretary Itza García on August 15. Their departures come after the Independent Fiscal Panel confirmed that both officials are under investigation for alleged irregularities linked to the Office of Permit Management.

Opposition leaders described the resignations as a “cover‑up” and urged a thorough judicial process. González rejected claims that Domenech will retain influence over government agencies, calling such allegations “speculation.” She said the transition is already underway and that new appointments for the Secretary of the Governor and the Financial Advisory Authority will be announced before the end of the week.
