Puerto Rico Health Secretary challenges former official to swear to corruption claims

Puerto Rico Health Secretary Víctor M. Ramos Otero has formally challenged former Health Secretary Carlos Mellado to present his public allegations of corruption under oath. The demand follows repeated claims made by Mellado regarding corrupt acts within the Department of Health.

Ramos Otero requested that Mellado submit a sworn statement to both the Department of Justice and the Puerto Rico Comptroller’s Office within 24 hours, detailing specific facts and evidence. The Secretary emphasized that corruption accusations are serious and should not be made through media outlets without legal responsibility. He stated that if the allegations are not substantiated under oath, he will pursue legal options to address what he described as malicious attempts to damage reputations.
