Puerto Rico lawmakers demand public hearings on failed energy deal
Lawmakers from the Popular Democratic Party (PDP), Héctor Ferrer Santiago and Ángel Fourquet Cordero, are demanding public hearings regarding a failed temporary energy generation agreement. They are questioning Representative Víctor Parés Otero’s decision to replace previously announced public investigations with a private meeting involving Josué Colón Ortiz, a central figure in the procurement process.
The controversy stems from a collapsed plan intended to add 800 megawatts of emergency generation. The agreement involving Power Expectations fell apart following allegations that a signature from contractor Enchanted Rock (ERock) was falsified. Experts have suggested the contract may be null due to the lack of a valid signature from an essential party, raising concerns regarding potential fraud and the integrity of the energy procurement process.
