Puerto Rico legislator proposes new forensic science branch

Representative Lilibeth Rosas Vargas has introduced Joint Resolution 393 to establish a branch of the Institute of Forensic Sciences in the western region of Puerto Rico. The measure aims to provide better tools for solving crimes and addressing the rising incidence of violent acts in the area.

The proposed branch would include medico-legal investigations and a satellite criminalistics laboratory. It would operate under the administrative and fiscal autonomy of the Institute of Forensic Sciences, functioning as a subsidiary agency to support the criminal justice system and assist residents in the western part of the island.
