Puerto Rico pursues international investment and tourism growth
Puerto Rico is actively pursuing international economic and tourism expansion through strategic diplomatic and industry engagements.
Carlos “Johnny” Méndez Nuñez, Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, met with José María Muriel Palomino, the Spanish consul general in Puerto Rico, to promote the island as an investment destination. The discussions focused on economic development projects, particularly in technology, medical product mass production, and export agreements. Data indicates that Spain is the second largest export destination for Puerto Rican goods and services, with exports reaching nearly $3.972 billion in 2025.
In the tourism sector, Puerto Rico has been designated as the International Destination of Honor for the ANATO 2027 tourism fair in Bogotá, Colombia. Willianette Robles Cancel, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, noted that demand between Puerto Rico and Colombia is at its highest level in a decade. The designation aims to elevate the island's profile and foster new commercial agreements within the Ibero-American market.
