Puerto Vallarta councilwoman denounces unauthorized payroll growth

Councilwoman Melissa Madero has denounced an unauthorized and excessive expansion of the municipal payroll in Puerto Vallarta. According to her report, while 2,707 positions were approved for 2026, there are currently 3,375 active employees, creating a surplus of 668 positions with an estimated cost of 151.9 million pesos.

The report highlights a significant imbalance in resource allocation. The administration of Mayor Luis Munguía reportedly has 117 positions despite only 18 being authorized, totaling 151 people when including advisors and staff. In contrast, essential services such as Public Security and Parks and Gardens are operating with significant staff shortages. Specifically, the Public Security area has 179 fewer people than required, while the Parks and Gardens department has only 60 workers.

Madero also noted that 778 unauthorized positions exist, costing an estimated 179.7 million pesos annually. She warned that the temporary payroll could reach 291.2 million pesos per year if current trends continue, far exceeding the budgeted 100 million pesos.
