Puertollano Youths Complete Free Lifeguard Training Program

Around twenty young people from Puertollano have finished a free 180‑hour course in lifeguarding and aquatic rescue. The training, delivered by the local Chamber of Commerce under the Talento Joven programme, was co‑financed with European Union funds and carried out in partnership with the Puertollano City Council at the María Luisa Cabañero swimming complex.

The curriculum combined theoretical lessons with practical drills, teaching prevention, surveillance, emergency response and rescue protocols for pool settings. Officials highlighted the initiative’s aim to boost employability for participants enrolled in the Garantía Juvenil scheme, targeting a sector with high summer‑season demand. During the diploma ceremony, Sports Councilor Javier Trujillo and Employment Councilor María Castellanos praised the trainees for their dedication and the skills they acquired.

The programme is part of broader efforts to qualify young job‑seekers and facilitate their entry into the local labour market, especially in safety‑related roles at recreational water facilities.
