Puglia allocates 40 million euros for 100 new buses

The Puglia Region has announced an investment of over 40 million euros to modernize its local public transport fleet. The plan involves the purchase of more than 100 new buses to replace aging vehicles currently in service.

Proposed by Infrastructure and Mobility Councilor Raffaele Piemontese, the funding is part of the National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Mobility for the 2024-2028 period. The regional government will utilize CONSIP framework agreements to expedite the procurement process. The funds will be distributed to municipalities and provinces to be used by local transport companies.

The allocation includes 33.5 million euros for 98 extra-urban methane-powered buses and 7.2 million euros for 8 electric urban buses, including necessary charging infrastructure. The initiative prioritizes replacing older models, specifically those meeting Euro 4 standards.
