Puglia allocates 8 million euros for student transport subsidies

The Puglia regional government has approved 8 million euros to fund a student transport bonus for the 2026-2027 academic year. The initiative aims to halve the cost of monthly subscriptions for interurban, rail, and automotive public transport services for commuting students.

The subsidy is targeted at students from vulnerable families. Eligibility is based on an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) of up to 13,000 euros, which increases to 15,748.78 euros for large families with three or more children. Notably, academic merit is no longer a requirement for access, as the program focuses on economic necessity and the practical need for mobility to attend school or university.

Infrastructure and Mobility Councilor Raffaele Piemontese stated that the measure is intended to alleviate financial pressure on families, noting that transport is a fundamental condition for daily school and university attendance.
