Puglia expands cycling infrastructure and bike-sharing services

Developments in sustainable mobility and cycling infrastructure are progressing in the Puglia region of Italy. The Ciclovia dell’Acquedotto Pugliese, a continuous route of over 200 kilometers stretching from Spinazzola to Grottaglie, is entering a critical phase. Local coordination groups are calling for a new governance model to manage the infrastructure, promote services, and transform the route into a driver for economic development in inland areas.

Simultaneously, the STEP Puglia Imperiale electric bike-sharing service has expanded its public operations. A new station is now functional in Canosa di Puglia, joining existing services in Andria, Corato, Margherita di Savoia, Minervino Murge, and Terlizzi. The project, funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, utilizes a hybrid model of fixed and virtual stations managed via a dedicated mobile application to facilitate multimodal travel across thirteen municipalities.
