In the Puglia region of Italy, a significant gender gap persists in the labor market. According to data from the Puglia Region Statistics Section, the female employment rate stood at 40.5% in 2024, compared to 70.3% for men, representing a gap of approximately 30 percentage points.

Despite this disparity, women in Puglia demonstrate higher levels of education and skill acquisition than men. Data shows that 60.4% of women pursue university education, compared to 46.4% of men. Additionally, women represent 26.3% of knowledge workers, significantly higher than the 12.7% recorded for men.

The report highlights several structural challenges, including high rates of involuntary part-time work among women (17.2% versus 5.8% for men) and overqualification, where 29.8% of women work in roles that do not match their educational levels.
