Puglia hosts multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites

The Puglia region in Italy possesses a diverse array of UNESCO World Heritage sites spanning nearly two millennia of history. Key recognized sites include the Trulli of Alberobello, which have been part of the heritage list since 1996, and the octagonal Castel del Monte built by Frederick II.

Other significant designations include the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo, representing Longobard presence in Southern Italy, and the beech forests of the Umbra Forest. As of 2024, sections of the Via Appia, the historic Roman road, have also been included in the heritage list.

Additionally, the MurGEopark of Alta Murgia is set to become a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2025. While distinct from the World Heritage List, this designation recognizes the area's international geological value and the connection between its landscape and local communities.
