Puglia identified as Italy's most targeted region for ATM assaults

Puglia has been identified as the Italian region most at risk for assaults on bank and post office ATMs, according to a 2025 report from the Italian Banking Association's Anti-Crime Security Research Center and the Public Security Department. The provinces of Foggia and Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT) report the highest frequency of these incidents.

Regional councilors from the Democratic Party (PD) are calling for a joint hearing of the Budget and General Affairs commissions. They aim to consult with provincial prefects, representatives from the Italian Banking Association, Poste Italiane, and the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI) to address the growing phenomenon.

The officials highlighted the social consequences of these attacks, noting that many internal areas are left without essential services after ATMs are destroyed. This disproportionately affects elderly populations who rely on physical locations rather than digital tools. The proposed hearing seeks to evaluate prevention measures, legislative possibilities for regional intervention, and the timeline for restoring damaged service points.
