Italy launches educational initiatives to combat youth violence and discrimination
Italian regional authorities and educational institutions are implementing various initiatives to combat violence and promote emotional intelligence among youth. In Puglia, the “Scuola d’Amore” project has been launched, involving the Universities of Bari Aldo Moro, Foggia, and Salento. This initiative aims to foster a culture of respect and prevent gender-based violence and discrimination through academic expertise, social work, and artistic expression.
In Umbria, the regional government has increased funding to 50,000 euros for the “Vince l’Amore” project, which focuses on emotional education and preventing sexual violence and bullying in schools. Similarly, in the Bari area, five municipalities—Polignano a Mare, Casamassima, Mola di Bari, Rutigliano, and Valenzano—have formed a network to combat discrimination related to sexual orientation and gender identity.
Broader discussions regarding youth violence and educational responsibility have emerged in Naples. Journalist Cristina Benenati and Cardinal Domenico Battaglia have both emphasized the need to move beyond sensationalist news coverage to address the root causes of adolescent distress and the responsibility of adults in providing guidance and healthy relational models.
