Puglia named Italian Capital of Environmental Education and Sustainability 2027
The Puglia region has been designated as the Italian Capital of Environmental Education and Sustainability for 2027. The recognition was granted by the International Permanent Secretariat of the WEEC Network, an international organization that collaborates with United Nations agencies such as UNESCO and UNEP.
Regional Councilor for Environment and Climate, Debora Ciliento, stated that the title serves as a starting point to strengthen the educational community across the territory. The region aims to create a replicable model of territorial educational governance to support a just transition through sustainable development and global citizenship education.
A key upcoming initiative is the Puglia Educational Pact for Education in Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship. The guidelines for this pact were developed by the Department of Research and Humanistic Innovation (DIRIUM) at the University of Bari as part of a collaboration to implement the Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development.
