Puglia names Alberobello, Brindisi, and Gallipoli as 2026 Capitals of Culture

The Puglia Region has designated Alberobello, Brindisi, and Gallipoli as the Capitals of Culture for Puglia in 2026. Alberobello will serve as the lead municipality for the “Pietramadre 2026” project, a collaborative initiative that also includes Castellana Grotte, Noci, and Polignano a Mare.

The Pietramadre project aims to create a unified cultural narrative by focusing on shared elements such as stone, landscape, traditions, and local history. The program is expected to feature over 50 scheduled events, including 15 macro-initiatives such as festivals, concerts, theatrical performances, and scientific meetings.

Funding has been allocated to support these activities, with Alberobello receiving 100,000 euros as the project leader. Gallipoli, as part of the group, will utilize regional funding to implement its program, “La bella tra terra e mare,” which includes 21 events and 15 meetings across various local venues and public spaces.
