Puglia Region Allocates Funds to Brindisi to Boost Waste Separation and Cut TARI

The regional government of Puglia, led by President Antonio Decaro, approved a council resolution to provide significant funding to the city of Brindisi. The money is earmarked for improving the city's waste‑separation system, with the aim of lowering household waste‑tax (TARI) bills.

Decaro’s administration said the investment targets municipalities that lag behind in recycling, noting that Brindisi’s low separation rates keep its waste tax high. The funds will be used to build infrastructure, acquire equipment and expand services needed for effective sorting. Regional councilor Isabella Lettori welcomed the move, stressing that the support is based on environmental and cost‑saving goals rather than political affiliation. The announcement also highlighted ongoing delays in establishing a waste‑processing plant, a project overseen by the regional agency Ager, which the region hopes to accelerate with the new resources.
