Puglia Region awards Granello d’Oro for sustainable beaches
The Puglia Region has awarded the ‘Granello d’Oro’ quality recognition to several coastal locations during the ‘Mare Democratico’ event at Fiera del Levante. The initiative aims to promote sustainable and inclusive bathing practices along the coast.
The municipality of Bisceglie received the award in the accessibility category for the Cagnolo free beach. The site is equipped to allow people with disabilities to access the water safely, supported by lifeguards and medical personnel from the Baywatch Association. Local officials noted that the beach is one of the few municipal free beaches on a rocky coast to receive such recognition.
In Bari, the Pane e Pomodoro beach was honored in the ‘Sport and Nature’ category. This award recognizes the facility's ability to encourage sports activities while respecting the coastal environment. A total of 31 entities, including beach clubs and free beaches, were recognized for their commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and hospitality quality.
