Puglia Region launches strategy to combat depopulation in 55 municipalities

The Puglia Region has announced the implementation of its Regional Strategy for Inner Areas, aimed at addressing socio-economic decline and depopulation across 55 municipalities. To facilitate community engagement, Regional Councilor Cosimo Borraccino will host two public meetings: one on September 9 in Manduria and another on September 25 at the Fiera del Levante in Bari.

The initiative utilizes FESR-FSE+ 2021-2027 European funds to support various development goals. Key focus areas include urban regeneration, the recovery of community spaces, and the enhancement of cultural, natural, and environmental heritage. The strategy also emphasizes strengthening tourism infrastructure, promoting slow and experiential tourism, and supporting local agricultural chains and social innovation.

By creating a direct dialogue between the regional administration and local communities, the program seeks to identify specific local needs and co-design interventions. This approach is intended to foster new economic opportunities, improve essential services, and strengthen the welfare systems within the targeted territories.
