Pula and Marčana announce initiatives for persons with disabilities
The City of Pula held its 5th session of the Commission for Persons with Disabilities and Children with Developmental Difficulties to discuss several quality-of-life improvements. A key initiative involves introducing free municipal transport for persons with disabilities starting January 1, 2027. This benefit is intended for individuals registered in the Register of Persons with Disabilities who have more than 60 percent physical impairment or specific functional impairment levels.
The Commission also discussed organizing a summer camp for children with developmental difficulties following a survey by the Association for Autism Istria. Additionally, a proposal was presented to improve accessibility at Valkane beach, including the installation of a Seatrac system, new lifts for sea access, and improved sanitary facilities.
In the Municipality of Marčana, the Association of Civil Disabled Persons – Inkluzija Pula has launched a three-year program titled ‘Golden Years in the Community’. Funded by the Ministry of Labor, Pension System, Family and Social Policy, the program offers retirees and members of the association weekly physical exercises led by a physiotherapist, monthly medical check-ups for blood pressure and glucose, and monthly art and creative workshops.
