Pula launches €6.5 million school sports hall project

The city of Pula has signed a contract to rebuild the sports hall of the primary school Šijana. The works, valued at about €4.5 million before VAT (approximately €5.6 million with VAT) and reaching a total of roughly €6.5 million when design, supervision and equipment costs are included, will last 15 months. About half of the financing comes from Croatia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, with the remaining half provided by the municipality. The existing hall will be demolished during the summer break to minimise disruption to classes.

Mayor Peđa Grbin said the new facility will meet modern standards and serve the whole community, noting, "We will obtain contemporary sports infrastructure that will serve the entire community." School principal Keti Melnjak explained that physical‑education lessons will continue on outdoor courts or in a small multipurpose hall during construction. Contractor representative Ilija Brčić confirmed that demolition will start within days and that the new building will feature two functional sections – a larger and a smaller hall – expanding usage for school activities and local sports clubs.
