Pula Mayor confirms Metis fire smoke poses no health risk
Pula Mayor Peđa Grbin stated that air pollution resulting from the fire at the Metis recycling center does not pose a health risk to citizens. This follows reports from the County Institute for Public Health confirming that air quality levels have stabilized.
The fire, which broke out Friday afternoon and was fully extinguished by Saturday morning, involved mixed waste including plastic and wood. While residents in the Šijana, Veli Vrh, and Štinjan areas were initially advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed, the immediate danger has passed.
Grbin expressed concern regarding a recent series of fires in the region, including incidents in Rijeka and Galižana, and has called for police investigations to determine if there is a connection. He also announced plans to relocate the recycling facility to a safer, more distant location through upcoming spatial planning updates.
