SUKMA 2026: Athletes secure gold in squash, fencing, and athletics

The SUKMA 2026 Malaysia Games continue with several notable achievements across various sporting disciplines. In squash, the Selangor men’s team secured the gold medal after defeating Kedah 2-0. In fencing, Penang achieved a golden double in the women’s foil event, with Rizzal Surayya taking gold and teammate Oo Chin Yu earning silver.

In athletics, the Penang men’s 4x400m relay quartet ended a 28-year gold medal drought by winning the event and setting a new championship record with a time of 3:11.84. Meanwhile, Penang’s artistic gymnastics team also secured gold in the men’s team event.

In diving, technical director Yeoh Ken Nee noted the emergence of promising young talent during the women’s 10m platform final. Sarawak’s Nur Eilisha Rania Muhammad Abrar Raj won the gold, followed by Lee Yiat Qing of Wilayah Persekutuan in silver and Cecelia Olivia Christopher Leoneil of Sarawak in bronze. Yeoh highlighted that while talent is evident, a gap remains between these prospects and elite divers like Pandelela Rinong due to factors such as training consistency and difficulty levels.
