Pulau Rengit launches Green Energy Ecosystem Technopark
PT PLN (Persero) has inaugurated the Green Energy Ecosystem Technopark (GEET) on Pulau Rengit in Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung. This initiative aims to transition the island from a reliance on Diesel Power Plants (PLTD), which previously provided only 12 hours of electricity daily, to a 24-hour clean energy supply.
The GEET system integrates multiple renewable technologies, including solar power, wind turbines, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), green hydrogen, fuel cells, and agrovoltaics. This technological integration is designed to support the social and economic activities of the local community, which consists of approximately 150 residents, many of whom are fishermen.
Governor Hidayat Arsani noted that the project serves as a national model for developing clean energy ecosystems in island regions. The increased electricity availability is expected to foster economic growth through facilities such as cold storage for fish catches and agrovoltaic applications for agriculture. PLN plans to evaluate the performance of the Pulau Rengit system to determine the feasibility of replicating this model in other island territories.
