Pulsano experiences severe flooding following extreme rainfall
Severe weather in Pulsano, Italy, caused significant flooding and damage to businesses and residents on August 18. Meteorological data recorded 45.5 mm of rainfall concentrated within a very short timeframe, an intensity that exceeded the initial yellow weather alert level.
Local administration official Francesco Luongo noted that while the rainfall was exceptional, the drainage network allowed water to recede from roads within approximately fifteen minutes of the storm's conclusion. He expressed solidarity with those affected by the sudden accumulation.
In contrast, opposition council member Angelo Di Lena criticized the regional government of Puglia, calling for structural interventions and increased funding. Di Lena argued that the territory remains fragile and that current management models leave the municipality with insufficient decision-making power regarding water services and infrastructure.
