Pulse nightclub fire trial continues in Skopje

The trial regarding the fatal fire at the Pulse nightclub in Kočani continues at the Basic Criminal Court Skopje in Idrizovo. The tragedy, which occurred on March 16, 2025, resulted in 63 deaths and over 200 injuries.

During recent proceedings, construction experts addressed questions from the defense regarding the materials used in the building. A key focus was the presence of polyurethane foam used for acoustic insulation in the suspended ceiling. Professor Goran Markovski, acting as an expert witness, testified that while no foam residue was found because it had burned completely, the conclusion of its presence is based on photo documentation, other expert findings, and traces found at the site.

The defense also questioned structural interventions made during a 2012 reconstruction, specifically the reinforcement of the floor slab with steel beams. The prosecution, represented by a team of 15 public prosecutors, is currently in the evidence-gathering stage. Once the prosecution completes its presentation of construction expertise, the defense will begin presenting its own evidence.
