Puma captured after weeks of searches in Poland's West Pomeranian region
A puma was reported roaming the forests near Karsinka and Rekowo in Poland's West Pomeranian Voivodeship in early July. A hunter first spotted the animal on the night of 6‑7 July, filmed it approaching his position and fired a warning shot, prompting authorities to activate a municipal crisis staff, deploy forest‑guard patrols and install camera traps.
Intensive searches continued for several days. The predator was finally located and shot with a tranquiliser near Karsinka, allowing officials to capture it alive. Preliminary plans call for the animal to be transferred to the Poznań Zoo, though a final decision has not yet been made.
