Puma Energy Ghana partners with local distributors to expand LPG access
Puma Energy Ghana has partnered with five local distributors—Earth Energy, Sandhill Oil and Gas, Riet Company Ltd, Hamcom, and StepGas Ltd—to accelerate the country’s goal of 50% Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) penetration by 2030.
The initiative utilizes the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), which focuses on consumers exchanging empty cylinders for pre-filled, safety-verified ones. To support this, Puma Energy introduced its “3y3 Good Exchange” program, allowing customers to swap old cylinders for new, NPA-approved ones at no cost. The strategy aims to decentralize distribution by moving away from traditional fuel stations toward a neighborhood-oriented retail network, specifically targeting peri-urban and rural areas.
Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), reaffirmed the regulator’s commitment to supporting legitimate industry players and fostering an environment for sustainable investment in the downstream petroleum sector. The expansion of LPG access is also viewed as a public health measure, as household air pollution from solid fuels is linked to reduced life expectancy in Ghana.
