Pumas announces departure of Raúl Alpízar as youth academy director

Club Universidad Nacional, commonly known as Pumas, has officially announced that Raúl Alpízar is stepping down from his position as Director of Fuerzas Básicas. The club stated that the departure was reached by “common agreement” and expressed gratitude for his professionalism and work since taking the role in 2020.

While the club has not yet named a successor, reports suggest that Juan Carlos Ortega, who has experience in Liga MX and the Mexican National Team, is the leading candidate to head the youth academy.

Alpízar’s tenure previously included a period of internal investigation in 2022 following allegations regarding player registration, though the club ultimately found no evidence of corruption at that time. The current announcement does not specify any particular reasons for his departure.
