Pumpkin season begins in Southwest Germany
The autumn pumpkin season has arrived in the Karlsruhe region and surrounding areas of Southwest Germany. Local farms and farm shops are offering a wide variety of edible and ornamental varieties.
Key locations include Bine’s Kürbisgarten in Graben-Neudorf, which features over 100 varieties grown without chemical pesticides, and Kürbishof Andres in Weingarten, which stocks approximately 300 different pumpkin types alongside corn, potatoes, and apples. Additionally, Obstbau Wenz in Pfinztal-Söllingen is displaying a diverse selection of decorative and food pumpkins through late October.
Nutritionally, pumpkins are high in water content and low in calories, containing approximately 29 kilocalories per 100 grams. They are a significant source of carotenoids, which serve as precursors to Vitamin A, and provide potassium, which supports healthy blood pressure.
