Pumpunya earthquake victims face registry exclusion in Junín
In the town of Pumpunya, located in the Chongos Bajo district of Junín, a dispute has emerged regarding the official registry of earthquake victims. Following a seismic event on July 18 that killed four people and destroyed nearly half of the town center, community leader Karina Lozano Páucar reported that 282 people were initially registered as affected by INDECI.
However, the Ministry of Housing’s system currently only recognizes 125 families, leaving 157 families excluded from the registry used to distribute temporary housing modules. The discrepancy is reportedly due to the Municipality of Chongos Bajo failing to upload the necessary information within the established deadline. Many residents continue to live in tents or damaged homes, facing a collapsed water supply system and the loss of crops, livestock, and personal documents.
