Punch the monkey to star in new book about his life in Japan
A new book titled ‘Keep Going, Punch: The Story of a Baby Monkey's Growth’ is being released to document the life of Punch, a Japanese macaque from the Ichikawa Zoological and Botanical Garden. The monkey gained international social media fame after being abandoned by his mother and finding comfort in a stuffed toy named ‘Orangumama’ during his integration process.
Published by Gakken, the 48-page publication features a selection of images from over 10,000 photographs taken by zoo caregivers. The book covers Punch's development from birth to his current interactions with his troop. It also includes an illustrated story designed to educate both children and adults about the social behavior and daily lives of Japanese macaques.
Takashi Yasunaga, the zoo director, stated that the book was created in response to numerous public requests. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to the local area and the zoo to improve habitats for the monkeys. The book is scheduled for release in Japan on November 26 in both physical and digital formats.
