Pune: 69-year-old man dies after falling into drainage work pit
A 69-year-old man, identified as Pradeep Pardeshi, died after falling into an 8- to 10-foot-deep excavation pit in the Yerawada area of Pune. The pit was dug for a drainage line project being conducted by the Pune Municipal Corporation.
The incident occurred near the Chitra Chowk vegetable market around 12:30 p.m. on October 17. Police reports indicate that Pardeshi was walking along the road when an passing autorickshaw allegedly brushed against him, causing him to lose his balance and fall into the pit. Although he was rushed to Shubhankar Hospital for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
Senior Police Inspector Yuvraj Nandre stated that drainage work had been ongoing at the site for approximately 15 days and that barricades had been installed as a precaution. While initial reports suggested a vehicle might have skidded into the pit, subsequent inquiries established the circumstances of the fall. As of October 18, no formal complaint has been registered, though police are awaiting a formal statement from the deceased's family following their last rites.
