Pune dam release and Himachal landslides amid heavy rains in India
Heavy monsoon rains in western and northern India prompted authorities to increase water discharge from Pune's Dimbhe Dam. About 9,050 cubic feet per second were released into the Ghod River, and officials warned residents of nearby villages to avoid the riverbanks and secure livestock and equipment.
In Himachal Pradesh, intense rainfall triggered landslides and road blockages. A major landslide closed the NH‑05 highway near Kinnaur, cutting road access to the district. In Chamba district, a 19‑year‑old woman named Shabnam was swept away by a fast‑flowing stream and later found dead. Additional debris and flooding affected roads around Manali, prompting local authorities to advise against non‑essential travel.
