Pune: IT professional dies by suicide following alleged dowry harassment

A 23-year-old IT professional, Vaishnavi Pravin Jarande, died by suicide in Pune following alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands. The incident occurred at her matrimonial home in the Vadachawadi area.

According to a complaint filed by her family, approximately 45 lakh rupees were spent on the wedding held on May 9, 2026, which also included 10 tolas of gold. The family alleges that shortly after the marriage, her husband, Omkar Sanjay Ghisare, and his parents began demanding an additional 5 lakh rupees to purchase a car. The victim reportedly faced mental and physical abuse when she resisted these demands.

Vaishnavi had recently returned to Pune after working in Bengaluru. Her family reported that she contacted her mother on the night of September 24 to discuss the ongoing harassment. Following her death, police arrested her husband and his parents in connection with the case.
